Firefighters Fight To Keep Kids Warm

The Johnstown City Firefighters saw a need to help keep kids warm in the city and raised money to buy some new coats.

JOHNSTOWN, CAMBRIA COUNTY--- The Johnstown City Firefighters saw a need to help keep kids warm in the city and raised money to buy some new coats.

On Friday the firefighters hand delivered dozens of boxes stuffed with new warm coats at East Side Elementary.

“We saw a need to help kids in this area,” said Captain Michael Prebehalla.  ‘We saw kids walking to school without coats and wanted to help.”

The department raised over $4,000 in just a few months to buy nearly 150 coats.

“To see the kids’ reactions it’s fantastic,” said Prebehalla.

"It’s unreal to see their reaction and how happy they are,” said Guidance Councilor Megan Kulish.  “What a great Christmas gift so unexpected they didn't know anything about this."

This was the first year the department did the fundraising they hope to do it again next year.
