The federal government has released the final state enrollment numbers for the Affordable Care Act. During the first open enrollment period, 318,549 Pennsylvanians signed up on the federal healthcare exchange. The government says 95,578 or 30 percent of the total were between the ages of 18 and 34.
Pennsylvania ranked fourth for the total number of enrollees among states that used the federal marketplace exchange.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services said nationally, 8 million Americans enrolled, including 2.2 million people 18 to 34, 28 percent of those who selected a plan. HHS also announced that more than 4.8 million additional individuals enrolled in Medicaid and CHIP through the end of March 2014, compared to enrollment before the Marketplace opened last October.
The final enrollment reporting period ran from October 1, 2013, to March 31, 2014, and includes “in line” and other enrollment activity (such as people enrolling due to a change in life circumstance) reported through Saturday, April 19, 2014.
