Users can easily stop videos from automatically downloading and playing on their mobile devices.
PALO ALTO, CALIFORNIA – Facebook’s autoplay feature on videos in newsfeeds is being blamed for boosting cell customers’ data plan bills over the limit.

The consumer finance website MoneySavingExpert.com first flagged the issue.

Smartphone users are being advised to change the default setting in the Facebook app to ditch the auto-streaming function.

On iOS devices:
Enter Settings and scroll down to Facebook
Tap “Settings”
In the video section, switch Auto-play to “Off”

Enter the Facebook app
Tap the menu button, then “Settings”
Tap “Videos” and switch Auto-play videos to “Off”
