Excitement Up for Penn State Football

It was a big weekend for Penn State Football as the Nittany Lions clinched their first win in the team's season opener against Syracuse.
STATE COLLEGE, CENTRE COUNTY - It was a big weekend for Penn State football, as the Nittany Lions clinched their first win in the team's season opener against Syracuse.

Downtown State College was filled with excitement Sunday, full of Penn State pride.

"Whenever we scored, people went nuts," freshman Nick Kappeler said.

It was a big win Saturday for the Nittany Lions and Sunday, the Penn State community is still celebrating.

"People are coming out to support and get ready for the year now," Vincent Solomon said. "I think they got a big boost of confidence from the game Saturday."

McLanahan's Manager, Vincent Solomon, says the team's first win of the season is giving his business a big boost, too.

"We got busier pretty late Saturday night," he said. "I think it was the kids getting back into town that actually traveled and went to the game."

Since Saturday night, Solomon says Penn State merchandise sales have skyrocketed, especially football jerseys.

"Every year, we all know around town, that it correlates with the success of the football team," he said. "The businesses, everyone just has more spirit and they want to support the team, so they come out and buy the merchandise. It helps everyone out."

The excitement doesn't stop there. Students across campus are celebrating the win and anticipating next week's first home game.

"My first home game, it's going to be pretty fun," Kappeler said.

Kappeler has never been to a football game at Beaver Stadium, but says after Saturday's win, he's more excited than ever.

"Since everyone is so team-oriented, you really get that atmosphere here," he said. "Even if they win or lose, you still feel like you're in that community."

Penn State will take on Eastern Michigan Saturday at Beaver Stadium. Kick off is set for noon.
