JOHNSTOWN, CAMBRIA COUNTY--- Two area charities are teaming up to help make prom memorable for teenage girls.
The Cinderella Project is in its 8th year. The program collects gently used prom gowns to give to girls who can’t afford to buy a dress of their own.
This year, organizers have decided to add an extra perk to help make the day more special thanks to ‘Cuddles For Kids.”
Conner Hagins and Kathleen O’Reilly are collecting items for a ‘beauty bag’ to give out to the girls.
‘We are collecting things like, shampoos, conditioners, hair spray and perfumes,” said Conner Hagins. “We have bins set up throughout the community and hopefully people will help.”
“I think the way both organizations are coming together to help these girls is really inspiring,” said O’Reilly. “I hope we collect enough to hand out to more than 100 girls.”
“This will be a little gift bag,” said Megan Seese-Livingston, Cinderella Porject Coordinator. “It will have all of those added things you need to help you get ready for the big day.”
Donations for the beauty bags wrap up the end of February. Dress try-on dates will be held at YWCA on Somerset Street in Johnstown on March 15th, and 22nd. It is on a first come first serve basis from 12 until three. More than 130 girls attended last year.
‘To see the sparkle in their eyes and know they feel good about themselves and have that self confidence, that is what this is all about,” said Livingston.
