Docs Ask for Help Fighting Prescription Drug Abuse

They want a database to help them monitor patients.

HARRISBURG, PENNSYLVANIA - A statewide doctors'group calls for legislation to help fight prescription drug abuse.

Speaking out on Wednesday, the president of the Pennsylvania Medical Association called on the state senate to  pass a prescription drug monitoring bill.  His statement followed a vote by a senate committee approving the  legislation.

The Medical Society says  doctors  are more than willing to help fight the prescription drug abuse crisis but they lack an important tool.

The group says  a prescription drug monitoring system could  help physicians better determine whether  the patient they are examining is a drug addict, doctor shopper, or a person with legitimate pain.
