Binghamton, N.Y.- The Altoona Curve used a seven-run third inning to down the Binghamton Mets 10-3 Tuesday evening at NYSEG Stadium in Binghamton, N.Y. After that, the Curve never looked back and took the series lid-lifter over the Mets.
After Binghamton tallied the first run in the game in the second inning, the Curve catapulted for a season-best seven-run inning. After a leadoff double by Willy Garcia and a walk by Jarek Cunningham, Gift Ngoepe sent a three-run home run over the center field wall to give the Curve a 3-1 lead. After Alen Hanson followed with his fifth triple of the season, Mel Rojas, Jr. drove in Hanson with a double to right. Stetson Allie then followed with his first home run in May to left field that scored Rojas and Keon Broxton capped the scoring with a solo blast.
In the fourth, Altoona added two more runs. Elias Diaz hit a bases loaded single to right field that scored Ngoepe and Rojas. At that point, the Curve led 9-1.
Binghamton tallied a run in the sixth but the Curve responded with a run of their own in the seventh. After Broxton reached on an infield single, he later scored on a bases loaded RBI single by Ngoepe, who finished the game 2-for-4 with four RBI.
Curve starter Zack Dodson made his first appearance with the Curve since April 14 and allowed one run on four hits over three innings. The southpaw struck out two and walked only one but did not factor into the decision. Tyler Sample (3-2) earned the win in relief after he slung four innings and allowed two runs on six hits. Hansel Robles (1-2) took the loss for the Mets.
