County Applies For Child Protection Grant

$10,000 would go to education and training.
HOLLIDAYSBURG, BLAIR COUNTY - One of the members of Pennsylvania's task force against child abuse is helping Blair County advance their child safety programs.
Blair County Chief Deputy District Attorney Jackie Bernard received approval Tuesday to apply for a $10,000 state grant to be used to educate police and first responders who answer potential child abuse calls. The money would also go to forming a multi-disciplinary investigative team to work with child abuse victims and limit their exposure.
“The goal of the MDIT, while it is nice to pull resources and make work more efficient it is also most importantly to limit the trauma to children by minimizing the number of interviews they're subjected to when the allegation is made,” Jackie Bernard says.
Bernard hopes this educational tool will help identify Blair County as a place that could benefit from a regional child advocacy center.
