Corbett announces millions in government savings

The governor has supported more than 200 cost-saving strategies since 2011.
HARRISBURG – Governor Tom Corbett announced Tuesday he has saved the state more than half a billion dollars since 2011.

Among the more than 200 cost-saving strategies he has supported, Corbett says reducing the state’s vehicle fleet has saved more than $50 million. The Pennsylvania Justice Network has cut $100 million of inmates collecting unemployment benefits, and PennDOT saved $1.3 million by improving accuracy and efficiency.

“We are trying to create here in my administration a culture in state government where new ideas not only are accepted but encouraged,” said Governor Corbett.

Corbett says all the policies have saved $650 million.
