Celebrate Black History with local artist and Underground Railroad expert Penelope Wilson.
Celebrate Black History with local artist and Underground Railroad expert Penelope Wilson.

Penelope will be one of the featured experts at Barnes & Noble in Altoona this Saturday, February 22 at 12:00 pm. As part of Barnes & Noble’s “Celebrate Black History with Local Contributors and Artists”, Penelope will touch on the Quilt Codes and symbols as they relate to the Underground Railroad. Poet Doris Washington will also speak at the event. All are welcome to contribute or just listen to the local experts.

Note: The picture attached to this story is one of Penelope’s pieces entitled “Walking with Ruby.” It was inspired by Norman Rockwell’s painting entitled “The Problem We all Live With” which depicts Ruby Bridges as she attends an all white school in New Orleans during the time of racial segregation.
