"Breast Bar in Town" Contest Kicks Off

Bar and tavern owners in Blair County can compete for the bragging rights of being the "Breast Bar in Town" while helping a great cause.
ALTOONA, BLAIR COUNTY -- Bar and tavern owners in Blair County can compete for the bragging rights of being the "Breast Bar in Town" while helping a great cause.

The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk for the American Cancer Society will take place on October 1st at Penn State Altoona.

Some walking teams are working with area bar owners to raise money for Making Strides.  Tavern owners are selling $1 dollar pink ribbon donation cards that they can then hang at their business.  The bar/tavern to sell the most until October 31st will be named the "Breast Bar in Town."  October is breast cancer awareness month.

For the 2010 walk fund-raising season about 10 different bars in the Altoona area competed.

Claudio Castrechini the owner of 30 Something won the breast bar award for 2010.  Sales of the pink ribbon cards at 30 Something helped to raise over $600.00  for the breast cancer awareness walk. Castrechini says he hopes to hold on to the title this year and help raise even more money for the American Cancer Society.

Bar/Tavern owners who want to get into the fun and fund-raising competition for 2011 can contact Lisa Koncz at the American Cancer Society office in Hollidaysburg at 814-695-9232.
