Bars Announce Closures Ahead of State Patty’s Day

Penn State is offering $2,500 to $7,500 to bars which agree to close during the student-created event.
STATE COLLEGE, CENTRE COUNTY – Several bars have announced they will not be open March 1st, the day some students have named as State Patty’s Day this year.

This is the second year Penn State University has offered between $2,500 and $7,500 to bars which close for the student-created drinking party.

The owner of the Lion’s Den tells WTAJ he would close even without the money because it’s the right thing to do.

Police say reducing alcohol availability led to a 37 percent reduction in crime during last year’s State Patty’s Day.
