JOHNSTOWN, CAMBRIA COUNT - A Russian bomb suspect now faces federal charges.

Vladislav Miftakhov was arraigned at the federal courthouse in Johnstown Thursday. He's charged with Possessing or Making an Unregistered Explosive Device.

According to the criminal complaint Miftakohv told police that he was only building the bombs to blow up in a field, and that he never intended to use them to blow anything else up. But US Attorney David Hickton those devices are dangerous regardless of their intended use.

Attorney Robert Donaldson feels like people are blowing the situation out of proportion. He says his client wants to focus on his education and people will realize they were overly concerned without reason. He spoke with his client's parents who are from California area. He says they’re concerned about their son.

The next step is a preliminary hearing scheduled for Monday, he'll be held without bail until then. If convicted Miftakhov could face ten years in prison or a ten thousand dollar fine.
