Area Airports To Receive Funding

More money is coming to help some ailing area airports.<br />
Governor Corbett announced yesterday that he will allocate $3.4 million in state funding to several local airports including those in Bedford, Cambria, Centre and Elk counties.

"Aviation, just as Pennsylvania's other transportation assets, supports jobs and strengthens our state economy," Gov. Corbett said. "These investments position these airports to offer better service and generate additional business activity."

The money will come from PennDOT's aviation development program that will provide $6 million in aviation funding this fiscal year.

The program is part of an Act 89 law, signed last November, that allows for significant investment in Pennsylvania's transportation assets.

A more detailed listing of the area airports receiving money and proposed projects at those airports is below:

Bedford County: Bedford County Airport -- $187,500 to expand public parking.

Cambria County:
Ebensburg Airport -- $200,000 to rehabilitate hangars.
John Murtha Johnstown-Cambria -- $150,000 to rehabilitate airport pavement.

Centre County:
Bellefonte Airport -- $15,000 to remove obstructions.
University Park Airport -- $375,000 to construct an auto parking lot.

Elk County: St. Marys Municipal Airport -- $262,500 to construct a vehicle parking lot.
