American, US Airways Cutting Ties With Orbitz

Tickets on the two airlines already purchased through the site will not be cancelled.
FORT WORTH, TEXAS – The nation’s largest airline announced Tuesday they will cut ties with online booking agent Orbitz.

Tickets with American Airlines and US Airways already purchased through the site will not be cancelled. Effective immediately American Airlines tickets will no longer be available on Orbitz, and US Airways tickets will not be available beginning September 1st.

American said no agreement could be reached on the portion of ticket sales Orbitz would receive. Orbitz offers tickets for United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue and many smaller carriers.

In our area, US Airways flies daily between State College and Philadelphia.

This is the second dispute between American Airlines and Orbitz. The airline pulled its fares from the site in 2010 over a dispute with its corporate parent Travelport. A spokesman for American said the 2010 dispute is not related to the current one.
