When you are a parent, chances are you'd do almost anything for your child. Amy Straub was inspired to help her son Adam and other children like him, after he was diagnosed with a serious condition at birth.
"Adam was born with a unilateral cleft lip and palette," explained Straub. "We received and continue to receive treatments at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. Adam has had 3 surgeries over the past 9 years and cannot say enough about our surgeon, Dr. Joseph Lossee and the rest of the staff at the Cleft Craniofacial Clinic. We have had a wonderful experiences and wanted to do something to give back to the Cleft Craniofacial Clinic. Three years ago, the Adam's Smile Auxiliary was started through the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation. We held our first Afternoon of Smiles and Sunshine Fashion Show and Luncheon in May, 2012." The event is in it's third year.
On today's show, Straub stops by to talk about the upcoming, "Third Annual Afternoon of Smiles and Sunshine Fashion Show and Luncheon", how it came to be and how her son Adam is doing now.
