Crash Shuts Down Part of Highway for Seven Hours

Driver trapped after slamming into another tractor trailer

BOGGS TOWNSHIP, CENTRE COUNTY - A crash on a major highway shut down a lane for nearly seven hours.

It happened just before 5 p.m. Sunday on I-80 eastbound near the Bellefonte exit in Centre County.

State Police said Michael Miles was having trouble with his tractor trailer and was trying to get off the road when another tractor trailer hit him from behind.

The driver of that truck, 46-year-old Tony Romeo, was trapped in the cab for more than an hour while emergency crews worked to get him out.

Romeo was flown to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville with moderate injuries.

The 54-year-old Miles was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center with minor injuries.

The right lane of I-80 east did not reopen until about midnight.
