HAMLIN TOWNSHIP, MCKEAN COUNTY - Police are investigating a horrific crash that killed six people, including two children.

Two children were killed. Four adults from Saint Marys were also among the victims.

The Bradford Era Newspaper reports the head-on collision happened on Route 219 in Hamlin Township, McKean County, near Kane.

The road was closed between U.S. Route 6 at Lantz Corners and Route 59 for about six hours.

A 12 year-old girl and a 6 year-old boy were killed.

According to the newspaper, State Police didn't give their names or where they were from, but they do say the driver of the vehicle they were in is from Kane.

The crash happened at around 4:15 p.m. Saturday.

Police say the crash happened when the Jeep Liberty, driven by 36 year-old Kathy Douglas, from Kane, crossed the center line and collided with the car, driven by 62 year-old Gary Beimel, from Saint Marys.

Beimel's three passengers were all killed. They are 54 year-old, David Cuneo, 55 year-old, Elaine Beimel and 81 year-old, Florence Donachy, all from Saint Marys.

The two children in Douglas' SUV, a 6 year-old boy and a 12 year-old girl, died.

Douglas and another child in her vehicle, a 10 year-old boy were flown to a hospital.

A State Police team from Punxsutawney was sent to reconstruct the crash. Police say the drivers were the only two of the six, known to have had seat belts on.

They still do not know why Douglas drove into the opposite lane.
