Colleges Checking Social Media Accounts

What teens post online could hurt their chance of getting into the college of their choice.
FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA – A recent survey revealed nearly one-third of admissions officers check a college applicant’s social media page to learn more about them.

The study, released by Kaplan, says 31% of the 381 admissions officers checked social media accounts this year. The number is up 5% from 2012 and is the highest percentage yet.

Thirty percent of those surveyed say they found something that would hurt an applicant’s chances.
