Altoona Christmas Parade Cancelled Due To Weather

The 8th Annual Spirit of Christmas Parade scheduled for Thursday evening has been cancelled due to weather.
THE FOLLOWING IS A NEWS RELEASE FROM PARADE ORGANIZERS:

ALTOONA – The 8th Annual Spirit of Christmas Parade scheduled for Thursday evening, December 12th, has been cancelled due to the extreme cold weather that is anticipated. With ‘real feel’ temperatures expected to be in the single digits, the members of the Spirit of Christmas Parade Planning Committee have decided that it would not be in the best interest of the Parade goers, the volunteers, and the participants, especially small children and the elderly that would be attending the Parade, to be exposed to the anticipated weather.

The Committee did consider the possibility of rescheduling the Parade for the third time but because of conflicting schedules, other Christmas and Holiday related events, and logistic issues, the 2013 Parade will not be rescheduled.

Pat Miller, Executive Director of the Greater Altoona Economic Development Corp. “wanted to personally thank the Parade sponsor, Burgmeier Hauling, for their continued support, as well as all of the volunteers from the Leadership Blair County Alumni Association, and all of the entries that were going to make this year’s Parade the largest in recent history. We felt that the health and welfare of those participating and those viewing the Parade was more important than putting on the Parade due to the extreme cold weather that is anticipated. We hope to make the 2014 Parade the best Christmas Parade possible.”
