UPDATE: PennDOT has issued the following statement regarding the safety of the section of road mentioned in this article where the crash occurred:

PENNDOT STATEMENT: This area was looked at as part of the Route 22 Corridor Study which was completed in Oct 2012. The area in question has been added to a paving project that is in preliminary design. They are looking at making 22 a single lane in both directions with left turn lanes, as I said this is still preliminary design so it’s still in the very early stages of design. The project has a let date of 2016.
