“It's a positive when you can add somebody that knows your culture, knows what you're doing schematically,” says Tomlin. “We'll play it by ear and see how [Dwyer] looks on the practice field and in the classroom."
Tomlin did say that Isaac Redman will get another opportunity on Monday night (against the Bengals), despite fumbling twice and rushing for just 9 yards off of 8 carries against the Titans.
The Steelers plan on using Felix Jones if the situation calls for it. There was no new injury update on rookie Le'Veon Bell.
Tomlin also said that linebacker Larry Foote underwent surgery (on his bicep) on Tuesday.
Center Maurkice Pouncey will have surgery on his knee on Thursday.
"Obviously losing Maurkice Pouncey was a blow to the group,” says Tomlin. “Not only in terms of what he's capable of, but also emotionally, and the manner in which [the injury] happened. Hopefully we'll put those things behind us and execute at a high level, a winning level [against the Bengals].”
Kelvin Beachum will, as of now, take Pouncey's spot on the offensive line, in favor of new signee Fernando Velasco.
As for some good news, tight end Heath Miller will see more reps in practice this week. But there's still no timetable for his return.
"We didn't play well [against the Titans],” says Tomlin. “Not only in the offensive line, but as an offensive unit or as a football team. But that's something we have to accept and embrace. The good thing about the NFL is redemption comes Sunday or in this case, Monday. It's only a short number of days away."
The Steelers will go up against former teammate, linebacker James Harrison, and the Bengals in Cincinnati, Monday, September 16th.
