Offense Escapes Curve Again Wednesday Night

ALTOONA, BLAIR COUNTY - The Reading Fightins shutout the Altoona Curve for a second consecutive game, 8-0 in front of 7,630 fans on Wednesday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field.  Altoona’s offense has not scored a run in 21.0 innings dating back to the third inning in game two of the doubleheader on Monday night.   

The Fightins (55-74) offense jumped out to an early lead picking up four runs in the top half of the third inning, when they sent nine men to the plate to make it, 4-0.  Reading turned in another big inning in the top of the fourth getting back-to-back home runs from Maikel Franco and Jim Murphy to grab a, 7-0 advantage. 

Nate Baker (3-3) went five innings allowing 11 hits and seven earned runs, while issuing three walks and striking out five.  Bobby Bramhall (1-3) spun six shutout innings and allowed just two hits to earn his first win with Reading this season.   

Jarek Cunningham collected three of the Curve’s six hits on Wednesday night, including his fourth triple of the season.
