ESPN's Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen are reporting that Penn State football coach has reached an agreement to become the new coach of the Houston Texans.

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle is reporting that the deal will be announced on Thursday, January 2nd, after O'Brien makes the deal official by signing it.  Mclain says the Texans will hold a news conference to introduce O'Brien, who will be in attendance, as their next head coach.

The Chronicle says the two sides finalized a deal on Tuesday night.

Penn State announced they will hold a press conference with Athletic Director Dave Joyner on Thursday at 11am.

O'Brien will become the third head coach in Houston Texans' history.  He follows Dom Capers (2002-2005) and Gary Kubiak (2006-2013).

O'Brien was 15-9 in 2 seasons as the Nittany Lions' head football coach.
