He captured a pair of wins over the weekend wrestling at 125 lbs. in place of Nico Megaludis.
Conaway was just a slip away from being an All-American a year ago at 133 lbs.
But with redshirt freshman Jimmy Gulibon locked into that spot in the lineup, Conaway views any opportunity to compete on the mat as a chance to make his mark.
“They're trying to get me in the lineup wherever they can,” Conaway says. “I mean I was grateful to wrestle this weekend even though it was at 125. It was different, but it was nice. Maybe view it as a redshirt year again. Maybe I won't be competing at Big Tens but just getting better for next year then. Or just doing everything I can do to get better even though I'm not starting.”
The Nittany Lions now travel to wrestle No. 1 Minnesota this Sunday in what Cael Sanderson calls the toughest test so far this year.
