ALTOONA - Penn State Altoona junior pitcher Raychel DeArmitt (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) threw her first career perfect game in the first half of a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon to help the Lady Lions softball team sweep Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference foe Medaille College by scores of 5-0 and 6-0 at Stewart Athletic Field.

DeArmitt pitched seven spotless innings and struck out 10 batters to record the fifth perfect game in Penn State Altoona softball program history and the second one this season. The victory adds to DeArmitt's AMCC-leading total, giving her 13 wins on the season.

Ala Miller (Muncy, PA/Muncy) went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs batted in, and one run scored to lead the Lady Lions offensively in the first game.

Miller's two-run single in the bottom of the second put Penn State Altoona on the board. Colleen Meehan (Yardley, PA/Notre Dame) added an RBI single in the third to make it 3-0.

A Medaille error in the fifth allowed another run to score for the Lady Lions, and Lily Glunt's (Snow Shoe, PA/Bald Eagle) RBI double to center in the sixth extended her team's advantage to 5-0.

In game two, Penn State Altoona received more good pitching. Kate Burge (Philipsburg, PA/Philipsburg-Osceola) tossed a complete game shutout, yielding just two hits in seven innings of work while striking out nine. The win is Burge's eighth this season.

Meehan went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI.

Clarissa Keller (Spring Mills, PA/Penns Valley) hit 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI.

Kelly Chambers (Snow Shoe, PA/Bald Eagle), Glunt, and Allison Simpson (Port Matilda, PA/Bald Eagle) also collected two hits apiece.

The Lady Lions broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third inning on Keller's two-run single to right-center. An error allowed Chambers and Keller to score on the play, making it 4-0.

Meehan's double to center in the fifth drove in two more runs, increasing Penn State Altoona's lead to 6-0.

The wins give Penn State Altoona a 12-4 record in the AMCC and a 23-8 overall mark. The Lady Lions travel for a non-conference doubleheader at Westminster College on Monday, April 21 at 3:30 PM.

Notes: Saturday's doubleheader was Senior Day for Penn State Altoona softball, and the team honored its senior second baseman Brittany Smith (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) in a pregame ceremony. Smith set a new program record for games played (138) in the doubleheader.
