ALTOONA - The Altoona Curve lost to the Richmond Flying Squirrels 8-2 Sunday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field. With the loss, the Curve dropped two of the three games in the series against Richmond and fall to 3-7 against the Squirrels this season.
Zack Dodson got off to a slow start on the mound for Altoona after he surrendered two runs in the first inning. After allowing a base hit to the first two batters of the game, Matt Duffy hit a groundout that scored Tyler Graham. Two batters later, Angel Villalona laced an RBI single to right that plated Ryan Lollis.
The Curve managed to tie the game in the second. After Elias Diaz reached on an infield single and Jarek Cunningham walked, Drew Maggi hit a single, but a throwing error by Richmond pitcher Jack Snodgrass allowed Diaz to score from second.  With the Curve down 2-1, Dodson laid down a sacrifice bunt that scored Cunningham from third.
Richmond tallied an unearned run in the third and didn’t look back from there. The Squirrels put three runs on the board in the seventh off Altoona reliever Tyler Sample thanks to a two-RBI double by Duffy and an RBI extra-base hit by Mario Lisson. The visitors added two more in the eighth by collecting four singles in the inning.
Dodson (0-2) took the loss for the Curve but finished the game strong. The southpaw allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits over five innings but retired the last seven batters he faced. Richmond starter Jack Snodgrass (4-0) earned the win after he allowed two unearned runs over five innings.
Altoona (16-25) wrapped up their series with Richmond (22-19) by dropping two of the three games and will see the Giants Double-A affiliate next from May 27 to May 29 in Richmond, Va.
The Curve will continue their homestand on Monday by welcoming in the division-leading Akron RubberDucks for the first of four games.
