ALTOONA - The Altoona Curve were about to come up with the plate in the bottom of the third inning before the rainfall came down at Peoples Natural Gas Field and suspended the game. The Curve are behind  the Portland Sea Dogs in the bottom of the third, 2-1, in a game that will be resumed on Thursday evening in Curve, Pa.
Portland struck first off of starter Adrian Sampson. Former Curve infielder Stefan Welch clocked a two-run home run to right that also scored Sean Coyle who was plunked by a pitch to lead off the second.
Altoona earned a run back for their only score of the game in the bottom of the inning. After Willy Garcia hit a two-out infield single, he scored one batter later when Gift Ngoepe hit a single to right that Garcia went first-to-third on but was able to score after a throwing error by Portland’s defense.
The Curve and Sea Dogs will resume the game on Thursday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field at 5 p.m. and will complete Wednesday’s suspended game to a full nine innings. After the suspended game is completed, Thursday’s regularly scheduled game will be played to only seven innings after a 30 minute intermission.
