Young Scholars of Central PA Charter School unveils expansion

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - The Young Scholars of Central PA Charter School unveiled its latest building expansion on Monday.

The charter school has an additional 8,000 square feet that include six new classrooms, a staff lounge and storage rooms.

"Construction has been going on here in multi-stages through the years, and this one is a good one," Administrative Assistant Leslie Adams said.

The project costs about $2 million which will be covered by the non-profit organization, Dream Schools. The school is responsible for paying higher rent, but will not cost the State College Area School District or tax-payers more money.

The school serves grades Kindergarten through eighth grade. The charter school provides an immersive cultural environment with students from 14 surrounding school districts, which represent 30 different countries and speak a variety of languages.

The school opened in 2005 with 86 students. There are 380 in 2018.
