ALTOONA, BLAIR COUNTY - An area monument dedicated to World War II veterans is in disrepair.

The crumbling monument is in the Mill Run section of Altoona. Esther McLucas raised money to help build the monument back in 1944. She went door to door asking for donations.

She and her husband John, a World War II veteran himself, want to see it fixed back up. He says it’s something veterans look forward to seeing. They live nearby and can see the loose bricks and holes in the monument.  It's on city property and the city has put up a fence around it.

Dave Diedrich in the Public Works Department is talking with some veterans groups and some eagle scouts but they need some skilled labor.

McLucas is looking for pictures on how this memorial looked when it was built he’d like to get it looking that way again. You can send them to our station AT 5000 6th avenue. Mark them Attention WWII Memorial.
