Woman strangled after argument

Altoona, Blair County - A Blair County man is facing multiple charges after officials say he strangled a woman.

Police say Christopher Leach became intoxicated and got into an argument with a woman around 9 p.m. on Wednesday, at an apartment along East Walton Avenue.

That argument became violent when the woman tried to call 9-11 and Leach allegedly took her cell phone and twisted it until it broke.

After that officials say he shoved the woman to the floor, smashing her nose and mouth, and began strangling her.

A neighbor in the building heard the victim crying for help, and called police.

When officers arrived, the woman answered the door covered in blood and bruises. She told officers what had happened and Leach was arrested.

During the search that followed, police also allegedly found five prescription sedatives in his pocket.

This morning he is facing multiple charges including strangulation and aggravated assault.
