Vigil held for Las Vegas shooting victims

State College, Centre County, Pa. - This tragedy is being felt all across the world, including State College. That's why Tuesday's vigil at the Allen Street gates was meant to be a time for healing.

Coming together in song, the State College community remembers the 59 people killed and hundreds injured during the attack in Las Vegas.

"They were going somewhere where they were just expected to be enjoying themselves and having a good time...They were going to expect...peace and life and excitement and instead they were met with... just unbelievable horror," grad student Dominic Veconi said.

Among the tears and prayers, Tuesday’s vigil had one purpose.

"Come together and... speak their minds, anything like that. (To) show consolidarity with the victims. Anything of that sort," community organizer Laura Shadle said.

After this latest shooting, some continue to hope for what they say is a small amount of change in America’s gun laws.

"I'm not talking about regulation, I'm not talking about restricting weapons, I'm not talking about... background checks or anything. I'm just saying acknowledge that there exists a problem,” Veconi said.

These area residents hope that the victims are not forgotten.

"And it can be so easy when these massive tragedies happen to just...not deal with it. Just shut it out of your mind because it's so hard to deal with, but it's really important that we do deal with it," community organizer Christine O'Donovan-Zavada said.

Even though it is hard, they still have hope for the future.

Another prayer ceremony is set for tomorrow night at Saint Johns Lutheran Church at 6:15 p.m.
