UPMC plans 3 specialty hospitals

Pittburgh, Allegheny County, Pa - UPMC announced on Friday that it will build three specialty hospitals that will offer next-generation treatment. The healthcare giant says Microsoft is set to collaborate with the design of  technology for these digital hospitals of the future.

According to UPMC the Heart and Transplant Hospital, The Hillman Cancer Hospital and The Vision and  Rehabilitation Hospital will develop and deliver the latest treatments. The facilities will be located on the campuses of UPMC's Mercy, Presbyterian, and Shadyside Hospitals in Pittsburgh.

The Vision and Rehabilitation Hospital, is scheduled to be the first to open, in 2020, with the Hillman Cancer Center expected to open in 2022. UPMC says the new venture will change health care as we know it.

UPMC Chief Operating Officer Leslie David said, "What we are building here is healthcare of the future, the most advanced facilities, technologies, patient-centered experiences that will take UPMC which is already best in class in this region and we will  have our own class."

Designs for the Heart and Transplant Hospital and the Hillman Cancer Hospital will be selected in an international design competition.
