Terminal illness bill passes in state house

Harrisburg, Pa. - Patients with terminal illnesses could soon have access to drugs not approved yet by the FDA.

A house bill passed the last major hurdle and is on its way to the governor’s desk.

The bill allows manufacturers to make the drugs available to eligible patients after successfully completely the first phase of clinical trials.

Clinical trials normally take three phases.

Under House Bill 45, physicians would not be held liable for recommending experimental products to their terminally ill patients.
