Suspect charged in early morning shooting

EVERETT, BEDFORD COUNTY – Charges have been filed against a 44-year-old Everett man accused of shooting another man early Thursday morning.

Steven Dunkle has been charged with Attempted Homicide and Aggravated Assault after State Police say he shot Craig Showalter during an altercation around 2:30 a.m. Thursday.

According to State Police, the two became involved in a verbal altercation that escalated to a physical altercation and the shooting.

Showalter was flown to UPMC Altoona for injuries sustained in the altercation and shooting. Police from Bedford and Everett Boroughs detained Dunkle until State Police arrived.

Upon searching Dunkle’s residence, controlled substances and drug paraphernalia were located along with several firearms.

In addition to the Attempted Homicide and Aggravated Assault charge, Dunkle faces a charge of Manufacture/Possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.

Dunkle’s bail was set at $150,000 straight cash. He is currently in the Bedford County Jail.
