JOHNSTOWN, CAMBRIA COUNTY--- Johnstown Police arrested two men over the weekend only to find them in possession of a gun stolen.

Daron Shamburger and Anthony Sanders are both facing receiving stolen property charges and carrying a hand gun without a license.  The two were charged stemming from an incident on Saturday night when Johnstown Police were called to a burglary on Gray Avenue in the city’s Prospect neighborhood.  According to a criminal complaint a taxi cab was scene leaving the area where the burglary had occurred.  Police stopped the cab just a few miles way along Washington Street in front of the police station.  Police allegedly questioned the two in the back and noticed a hand gun lying on the floor.  That gun was reported stolen from a home in Richland Township back in April 2009.

“We had a number of vehicle break-ins during that time,” said Detective Tom Keirn.  “The gun found this weekend was stolen from a car.”

Keirn said it’s unclear if the two arrested over the weekend were actually responsible for stealing the gun several years ago.

“Typically the people found with the gun are not necessarily the ones who stole it,” said Keirn.  “It could have changed several hands throughout the years.”

Shamburger and Sanders are in the Cambria County Jail.
