State College student shot 6 times outside of Friday's football game

On Friday, thirteen year old State College student Jason Anderson was shot 6 times outside of the State High football game.  He underwent 5 hours of surgery to remove air soft pellet fragments from his eye and his temple.

School administrators say they were shocked and in disbelief when they heard about what happened.  They are now reviewing their safety protocols to find out what went wrong and to make sure it never happens again.

According to the police report, the incident did not happen on school property, but in front of the United States Post Office on Fraser Street in State College.  Anderson was shot twice in the chest, twice under his right eye, once directly in his right eye, and another time in his temple.

He underwent successful surgery to remove the pellet fragments, but is now completely blind in his right eye.

Police are still investigating the motive behind the attack, and they are looking into the relationship between the two students who attended different schools in the district.

Superintendent Bob O'Donnell said that the district has already taken measures to address the safety of everyone in attendance at these games.

"We will increase the amount of security outside of the stadium for sure.  We've already had those discussions with the police, and we'll also include a better presence of our administrative team on the outside of the stadium so that people who know the students.  We'll have a higher number of adults who know the kids outside the stadium too," said O'Donnell.

"We are so very lucky to be in such a loving community and we thank God for placing us here. We wish we had a better way to show our appreciation and gratitude for all that has been given.  For now what we can do is say 'Thank You' to each and every single one of you. We will forever be grateful, Jason will forever be grateful.," said Jason's mother in statement to WTAJ.

The community has started a Go-Fund-Me page in Jason's name, which has raised more than 21 thousand dollars in just two days.
