STATE COLLEGE – Voters in State College approved a referendum Tuesday to raise taxes to pay for renovations at State College Area High.

The hike will go into effect in 2015. SCASD estimates people will pay around $190 per year to increase security at State College High and bring the building up to code.

Some people in the area say it is a needed change as the school has been the same since the 1970s.

With the referendum passing, the board will spend the summer furthering the design process. The board hopes the new school will be complete by 2018.
