Softball team plays first game without late captain

Hollidaysburg, Blair County, Pa. - Tuesday was the first day the Hollidaysburg Softball team was on the diamond without Mikayla Focht.

Before the game, the team had a special huddle and cheered do it for 4. The number 4 was Mikayla's number on the team.

We caught up with a person who was close to Mikayla who shared some memories with us.

Hollidaysburg Athletic Trainer Amy Smearman remembers Mikayla Focht as more than just a competitive athlete.

Focht was like a big sister to her daughter Abby.

"Mikayla would not only talk to her but she would have a catch with her, meet Abby at the gym to teach her some new techniques and things that would help her. She taught her to work some extra work outs into her daily life outside of practices and games.."

Smearman says the team gathered together Monday to make a memorial for Focht.

She says this game is in honor of Mik.

"The softball team is wearing special stickers on their helmet that say #Play4Mik and I think it's a very nice tribute that they will include her and keep her close to their hearts."

The softball team attended Mikayla's viewing after the game.

The funeral service is set for Wednesday at 11 o'clock at the Good Funeral Home.
