ALTOONA, BLAIR COUNTY - The public gets their chance to learn more and speak out against changing the way one county collects property taxes.

Workers are starting to make their way around to every home in Blair County to see what they're all worth. It's part of the Blair County Property Tax Reassessment.

Many people in the crowd were worried their property taxes will go up if the county reassesses. But the company that is running the re-assessment says the county can't use this process to make money. Their research shows Blair County has more people paying the wrong amount than any other place in the state. After the process is finished they say a third of people will pay more, a third will pay less, and a third will stay the same.

The county can raise taxes up to 10% the following year. And people in the crowd were worried about that just being the beginning. They fear the county will just continue to raise taxes each time they can.

But some people listened to the speech and were encouraged the immediate process seemed fair.
The county is going to hold meetings like this in every school district in the county.
