ALTOONA, BLAIR COUNTY - A local city councilman comments on charges filed against a police officer in his city.

This weekend charges were filed against an Altoona Police officer for a fight that happened in Pittsburgh.

No one wants to rush to judgment before hearing all the facts of this case. But some Altoona City Council members are dismayed about what could be another black eye for the city.

Hanover Township Police filed charges against Altoona city officer Matthew Plummer this weekend. Officers say Plummer got in a fight with another man Saturday night in the town outside Pittsburgh. Plummer was charged with Aggravated Assault for his part in the brawl.

He was actually charged around 5:00 Sunday morning. He was later released on five thousand dollar bail.
The 27 year old officer is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on September 26th for the one count of Aggravated Assault.

Councilman David Butterbaugh says the appropriate people are looking in to the situation and trying to understand exactly what happened Saturday night and why. He can't comment on the personnel issues and what it will mean for his employment with the city. But he was sorry to learn about the incident.

Council will hold an executive session Tuesday night to talk about this. So far the Altoona police department has not responded to our requests to talk about this incident.
