CENTRE HALL, CENTRE COUNTY - One Centre County town is generating a lot of buzz, all thanks to a car.

It's one of the rarest forms of its kind. The 1969 Shelby Mustang GT-500 is an original survivor, even down to the 1973 inspection sticker.

"It looks like new and it's beautiful," Ronald Gilligan, of Ronald Gilligan Auctioneering, said. "It's the original, as found condition, just now with a coat of dust off so you can see the car."

Gilligan has been an auctioneer for over 20 years. He couldn't believe his eyes when he saw this car and frankly, neither can anyone else.

"This vehicle has gone nationwide," he said.

In fact, Gilligan said this car has gotten so much attention, his website crashed from the sheer number of page views.

With just over 8,500 miles, Gilligan said it's likely one of the lowest-milaged survivor models of its kind that's out there and it's for sale.

"This car has been folklore in Centre Hall for 40 years," he said. "With the phone calls we've had from California, Arizona, Montana, South Dakota, Florida, Alabama, New York. I anticipate a lot of people to be there and I'd say it'd be in the thousands of people to come and watch."

The car will go to auction in April. Gilligan anticipates it could break world records.

"I think, comfortably, the car would be in the $100,000 to $200,000 range," he said. "This could be the highest priced 1969 GT-500 to ever get sold."

Its original owner, Larry Brown, bought this car new in 1969 for $5,000.

"It's very exciting," Gilligan said. "I'm just as excited to see how the Ford Ranchero sells the 1974 van that only has 500 miles."

Mr. Brown had quite the collection of vehicles.

"I don't think any of us involved ever thought it would get to the point where it's gone nationwide like it has," Gilligan said. "It's just amazing how word has spread."

The cars will go to auction Friday, April 25. The cars will be available for viewing starting at 7:30 A.M. The auction on the vehicles will begin at 12:30 P.M., starting with the Mustang. The auction will be held at 107 West Ridge Street in Centre Hall, PA.
