Logan Township Police say they have a lot of trouble with speeders. And this new bill could change that. Police Chief Ron Heller thinks the perception that police just want radar guns for more ticket-money is the reason Pennsylvania is the only state that doesn't let local police use radar.
Senator John Eichelberger is one of the sponsors of a bill that would bring PA up to speed. Right now according to the state constitution only state police are allowed to use the radar guns. A lot of local police use something called vascar that involved timing vehicles between set points. Eichelberger's bill would let local police have the same tools, would make sure the machines were checked for accuracy, and make sure municipalities couldn't abuse to radar to make money.
Heller has testified before the transportation committee before and hopes this time the bill will pass.
