FERGUSON TOWNSHIP, CENTRE COUNTY - A Penn State student remains in critical condition Monday night after being left for dead by a hit and run driver.

Police said 21 year-old Eric Jones, of Ambler, is in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit at UPMC Altoona.

Police said he is on a ventilator and is not able to communicate.

Jones was allegedly walking along the 500 block of Blue Course Drive when he was struck and run over by the vehicle.

Police are still on the hunt for who did it.

"Absolutely never, never," neighbor Augustin Banyaga said.

Banyaga is still in shock.

"It's unbelievable, that a car would strike somebody and just leave," he said. "It's criminal."

His home sits just a few hundred yards away from the scene of the accident. He said the commotion from emergency responders woke him around 5:30 A.M. Sunday.

"I heard the big noise, big noise, from the helicopters, ambulances, the police," Banyaga said. "I thought, what's going on?"

Police said Jones was walking on the side of Blue Course Drive just across from Westwind Drive, wheeling a cooler behind him around 4:20 A.M. Sunday. That's when they said someone hit and ran him over and drove away, leaving him for dead.

"We've got a few tips we've followed up on," Ferguson Township Police Sgt. Robert Glenny said. "So far, nothing has materialized."

This is the third pedestrian versus car accident in State College in two weeks.

This one is a case Sgt. Glenny calls frustrating.

"We're hoping that somebody may have been in that area at that time, may have seen something, may have seen a vehicle, may have heard something," he said. "Something that just stuck out in their mind that was strange."

Glenny and Banyaga are hoping for justice.

"You strike somebody and instead of stopping to help him, you just run, it's criminal," Banyaga said. "I hope they get him."

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or can provide any information about the identity of the striking car or driver is asked to call Ferguson Township Police at 814-237-1172, or through dispatch at 1-800-479-0050.
