The study is part of their effort to build a case in favor of a county-wide reassessment. Figures presented to the commissioners focused on similar properties that had been sold in recent years.
“We found that the properties that are appreciating in value are being taxed at a lower percentage of their value and properties that are decreasing in value are being taxed at a higher percentage of their value meaning those properties are paying more than their fair share in taxes,” said Janet Burkardt with Weiss Burkardt Kramer LLC.
Commissioners expect to get the full analysis of property values in the county in the next week.
The completed study is expected to be one more step leading to a full county-wide reassessment that could get started this year and take about two years to complete.
