Police officer is sentenced for DUI

Altoona, Blair County, Pa. - Police officer receives ARD after being charged with driving under the influence.

Police say Altoona Police Officer Eric Stirk was off duty when he was pulled over in June for erratic driving.

He was stopped along the 700 block of 6th Avenue in Altoona and taken into custody when police suspected he had been drinking.

His blood alcohol level was measured at more than double the legal limit.

Stirk applied for Accelerated Rehabilitative Program or ARD for first time offenders.

He was granted ARD with conditions.  He will be in the program for 12 months and his license will be suspended for 60 days.  Stirk will also pay $600 in fines and will not have to do community service because of his military service. The District Attorney's office say these conditions are standard.
