HOLLIDAYSBURG, BLAIR COUNTY - Hollidaysburg Police have charged a man they believe broke into at least 30 to 40 vehicles since late May, but they think there could be even more.
44 year old Christopher Johnston is accused of breaking into dozens of cars at multiple spots throughout the greater Altoona and Hollidaysburg areas. This also isn't his first run in with the law. Court records show he pleaded guilty to similar charges back in 2009.
Right now only three sets of charges have been filed against Johnston, but police are planning to file many more. According to the criminal complaint, Hollidaysburg Police searched Johnston's apartment Saturday and found a black garbage bag in his bedroom closet filled with pursues, wallets, identification cards and other property.  Police Chief Jeffrey Ketner says that Johnston allegedly broke into cars at parks in the area, the Hollidaysburg YMCA and the Blairmont Club in broad daylight, but the multiple locations made the case more difficult to solve.
"He was sort of blended in a little bit. I don't want to say a whole lot about what he was using, but what he was using to hide the theft was not outside the normal for the area he was in," Jeffrey Ketner, Hollidaysburg Police Chief says.
Police say they think their are even more victims that haven't come forward yet from these break-ins. If you have had your car broken into recently, Hollidaysburg Police is asking for you to give them a call at 814-695-3711.
