WHITE DEER TOWNSHIP, UNION COUNTY – Dozens were taken to five area hospitals Wednesday morning after a Greyhound bus collided with a tractor trailer on I-80.

The Greyhound was traveling from New York City to Cleveland west on I-80 near exit 212 around 2 a.m. Wednesday morning when it crashed into the back of a tractor trailer carrying garbage from New York City.

Fifty people were on the bus, with more than 40 taken to area hospitals. Some were taken by helicopter.

“Up to what we know now five different local hospitals that are caring for some of these,” said State Police Trooper Matt Burrows. “Whether they’re injured or just for precautionary measures.”

Luggage and personal belongings were scattered across the closed lanes of the interstate as troopers reconstructed the accident.

According to 511pa.com the westbound lanes of I-80 are closed as of early Wednesday afternoon.
