Police investigating after teen shot in face with air gun during football game

State College, Centre County, Pa. - Police are investigating after a 13-year-old Sate College Area School District student was shot in the face with an air gun Friday night during the high school football game.

Officers said it happened on the 200 block of South Fraser Street.

We're told the victim was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center and then transferred to Danville Medical Center with injuries to his eye and face.

Officials said numerous witnesses identified the suspect as a 14-year-old male SCASD student.

The State College Police Department filed a juvenile allegation for aggravated assault, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person, against this male.  We're told he was taken into custody without incident and has been placed at the Central Counties Youth Detention Center.

At this time police believe that this was an intentional attack, related to a prior dispute between the two youths. The State College Area School District administration is also assisting in the matter due to it taking place during the Football game near school grounds.

Superintendent Bob O’Donnell responded to the incident releasing a statement that reads in part:

"Right now, our focus as a district is on our students and their families and our steps to move forward to support them. This tragedy occurred despite having several police officers in close proximity. Therefore, we will collaborate with the State College police department to conduct a review of safety protocol at district events."
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone who may have additional information or witnessed the event is asked to contact Detective Steve Bosak or School Resource Officer Terry Stec at 814-234-7150.
