FRANKSTOWN TOWNSHIP, BLAIR COUNTY - State Police call off the search for an armed man in Blair County. Police searched the woods of Frankstown Township for more than 24 hours. They were looking for 23 year old Brandon Dale Newton.

State Police say they still are looking to arrest Newton. But they have done all they can in the woods where he disappeared.

Around noon Thursday Newton said something that made his family think he was going to hurt himself. Then he allegedly stole two guns and took off into the woods near the Hollidaysburg Sportsmen’s Club.

At that point the State Police told everyone living in the area to lock their doors and not come out. The Hollidaysburg School District took action too; they closed down Frankstown Elementary which is near the search area.

Friday morning State Police were searching the woods again, but they let everyone back into their homes because they didn't think Newton was going to hurt anyone else. Some people were upset about the inconvenience and others didn't want the kids back in school. But police had given the all clear and Dr. Bob Gildea re-opened the school.

Friday evening police called off the search because they've thoroughly searched the woods and there was no sign of Newton. They’re still asking the public for information and they will track down any leads they get, but they say there is no point in searching the same woods over and over again.

If you do know anything about Brandon Newton, they’re asking you to call 814-696-6100.
